When to keep quiet
There is a time to speak up and a time to be quiet. We can adopt a general rule of restricting our speech and thinking process during certain periods such as:
- When anger takes over
- When we are jealous
- When we are envious
- When fatigued
- When greedy
- When disturbed
- When emotional
- When in grief
- When upset
- When unwell
- When distracted
- When worried
- When agitated and perturbed
- When moody
- When absorbed in an activity
- When sad and depressed
- When in fear
- When hungry
- When uncomfortable
- When distressed
- When under stress
- After you are fired or criticized
- After an unpleasant experience
- After a failure
- After making a mistake
- After a bitter argument
- After hearing bad news
- After watching disturbing news
- After a drink
- When feeling low
- When the body is weak
- When you are convalescing
- When there are too many things to handle
- When you are pressed for time
- When over-excited
- When lethargic and listless
- When disoriented
- When sleepy or drowsy
- When you are strongly identified with a position
- When you have insufficient knowledge on the subject being discussed
- After a bad day
During such times do not:
-take decisions
-give any opinion
-interpret situations
-pass judgment
-express likes and dislikes
-evaluate options
-comprehend complex subjects
-criticize
-get into arguments
If we cannot avoid taking a decision then seek counsel from a sober person
After a few days, when sober, review your decision.
When anything has serious long term consequences ask for more time and ponder over it when in a different frame of mind
